Data is our identity; it drives our lives today. But data is often invisible, something something you cannot see. Signals From the Noise is a large-scale, public art installation by artist Karyn Nakamura created for WIRED and T. Rowe Price. Using real stock market data, the installation showcases the chaotic volatility of financial markets and transforms it into a visualization where structure emerges from systems of motion. In a three chapter arc, kinetic noise transforms into bands of particles and transforms again into iridescent light as data overlaps and converges. The installation is a 37’ wide and 10’ mesh LED structure that allows viewers to experience the data visualization in front of them, while taking in the architecture of the Oculus around them. The installation was seen by just over 400,000 visitors over the span of two days.
